Kansas City is one of the better cities in the country to throw a company holiday party, purely on price — the venues are good and the rates are a fraction of the coasts. The complications are ice storms and the state line.
Nine options and their trade-offs.
1. A hosted murder mystery at your own venue
Ours, and first because an ice storm cannot cancel a party held at your own office, and nobody has to cross the metro to reach it.
It also breaks up the departmental clustering that makes an office party forgettable.
2. A restaurant buyout
Excellent value here. The Crossroads books first; settle it by September.
3. A hotel ballroom
Right for a few hundred people, and the downtown hotels do it well at sensible prices.
4. A brewery buyout
Good value, plentiful, and casual. Non-drinkers need thought.
5. Union Station or a historic venue
Union Station at Christmas is genuinely special and a real draw for staff. Long lead times and it books far ahead.
6. A daytime lunch
Better attended, especially with staff driving from Johnson County or the Northland in December weather.
7. An ice skating outing
Crown Center's rink is central and cheap. An hour, and not for everyone physically.
8. A cooking or cocktail class
Good for twenty to thirty and reliably indoors.
9. Charitable giving instead of an event
Well received and not, by itself, a party.
Timing
Settle December by the end of September. We ask for about 45 days, so early October is the last practical moment — and have a plan for what happens if there is ice on the roads that evening.
If you want a party that an ice storm cannot cancel, We bring the host, the storyline and every piece of the game to your venue, and we ask for about 45 days so it can be staffed and prepared properly. Pricing and availability shows what your guest count works out to, you can book a date directly, and the contact page reaches a person if you would rather talk it through first.
