Sacramento has an unusual employment mix — a great deal of state government, a lot of healthcare, and an increasing number of people who moved up from the Bay Area and work remotely. Those groups keep different hours and have different expectations of a work event, which is worth knowing before you book anything.

1. A hosted murder mystery at your own office or venue
Ours, and first because it works for a team that is only physically together occasionally. We come to your office or a room you already have, and it runs in about two hours with no preparation asked of anybody.
Everyone gets a character and a motive. Indoors and air-conditioned, which from June to September here genuinely matters — a hundred and five degrees is a normal July afternoon.
2. A river or delta day
Distinctively Sacramento and lovely in spring and autumn. In high summer the heat is serious, and it self-selects towards the already-outdoorsy.
3. An escape room
Several downtown and in Midtown. Good for six to eight, poor above that.
4. A Kings game or a River Cats game
Easy to arrange and Sutter Health Park is a pleasant evening. Three hours facing the same way.
5. A brewery buyout
Midtown has good options with function space and it is decent value. Casual, and non-drinkers need thought.
6. A cooking class
Sacramento's farm-to-fork identity makes this land better here than in most cities. Good for twelve to twenty-five.
7. A wine trip to Amador or Napa
A proper day out and a genuine treat. It is a full day plus travel, and it needs designated drivers or a coach.
8. Volunteering
Well received. Parallel work rather than shared work.
The Sacramento planning note
July and August afternoons regularly pass a hundred degrees, so anything outdoors between June and September should be a morning or an evening, not an afternoon. And if a chunk of your team is state government, remember their schedules are far more fixed than a private-sector team's — an event that runs past five will lose people.
