Lincoln in December has a specific rhythm: the university empties mid-month and the city noticeably quietens, the legislature is not yet back, and the weather brings wind and ice rather than deep snow. The first two weeks are the window.

1. A hosted murder mystery at your own venue
Ours, and first because ice cannot cancel a party in your own building, and a state-government workforce with fixed hours is far better served by a late-afternoon event than an evening one.

The best character in the city for the money. There are not many, so book early.
3. A restaurant buyout
Excellent value. Book by September for December.
4. A hotel ballroom
Right above a couple of hundred people at low rates.
5. A brewery buyout
Small scene, fair prices, casual. Non-drinkers need thought.
6. A daytime lunch
Better attended in a city of fixed working hours, and much cheaper.
7. An event at the state capitol or a historic building
The capitol tower is genuinely one of the finest buildings in the country and most staff have never been up it. Rules are strict and lead times long.
8. A cooking or cocktail class
Good for twenty to thirty and reliably indoors.
9. Charitable giving instead of an event
Very well received here. Not a party by itself.
