Custom Games

A custom murder mystery party, written around your people

Over twenty themes to choose from — and if none of them is quite the night you had in mind, we will write you one.

Most murder mystery companies sell you a box. You get a script, a set of characters and a theme, and your job is to bend your evening to fit it.

We do it the other way round. There are more than twenty themes ready to run, and if the occasion calls for something specific, the game gets written for the occasion instead.

What custom actually means

It ranges from small changes to a game written from nothing:

  • Named characters. The people in the room become characters written for them — the running jokes, the reputations, the thing everyone knows they would do.
  • Your setting. A company, an industry, a family business, a shared history. Anything the room already understands without being told.
  • Your occasion. A fiftieth birthday, a retirement, an anniversary, a milestone worth building a story around.
  • A whole original game. Plot, suspects, clues and ending, written to your brief.

How it works

We talk first — who is coming, what the occasion is, what you want the night to feel like, and what is off limits. Custom games live or die on the second one. A game that is funny because it is close to the bone is a good night; one that goes too far is a story people tell for the wrong reasons. We would rather agree the edges with you up front.

From there we write it, you read it, and we change what does not land. The game is then hosted the same way any of ours is: a professional game host runs it at your venue and your guests play.

You approve it

Nothing gets played that you have not read first.

Nobody watches

Custom or not, the key characters are played by your guests and the rest investigate.

Anywhere in the country

We host nationwide, with no travel charge on your quote.

Give us more time than usual

Our standard booking window is 45 days. A custom game needs writing and a round of changes on top of that, so the earlier you start the conversation the better. If your date is tight, say so — we will tell you honestly whether it can be done rather than promise it and rush the writing.

If you do not need custom

Plenty of nights do not. The ready-made themes cover most occasions and cost less, and there is no penalty for picking one — see packages and availability for what a standard game costs.

Questions people ask

Can you write a custom murder mystery game for our event?

Yes. A custom murder mystery game is written from scratch around your people, your occasion or your company — the setting, the characters and the motive all come from what you tell us. Custom murder mystery parties take a little longer to prepare, so give us as much notice as you can.

Can you write characters based on the actual guests?

Yes, and it is usually the part people enjoy most. We agree with you beforehand what is fair game and what is off limits, so the jokes land the way you intended.

Can you write a game around our company or industry?

Yes. A company setting, an industry, a milestone or a shared history all work well, because the room already understands the references without being told.

Do we get to read it before the night?

Yes. You read the game before it is played and we change anything that does not land. Nothing gets played that you have not approved.

How much longer does a custom game take to arrange?

Our standard booking window is 45 days. A custom game needs writing time and a round of changes on top, so start the conversation earlier. If a date is tight we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.

Does a custom game cost more?

Custom writing is quoted on top of the package for your guest count. Tell us what you have in mind and we will price it before you commit to anything.
